Tomorrow, July 9, 2015 at 2pm, Commissioner Levine-Cava is introducing an Ordinance which creates a framework for improving the status of women and girls. The UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) is the only international treaty to focus exclusively on the rights of women. It has since been adopted by many countries. However, the United States never ratified the treaty. Since then the CEDAW Ordinance has been introduced and passed in several U.S. cities. Miami-Dade is the first southern city to introduce the CEDAW Ordinance. For example this Ordinance would promote gender equality in the County workforce and would provide protection and funding for services to prevent violence against women.
This is the first public hearing scheduled for this Ordinance. We are asking that you attend to give your comment and support.
